CAP Portfolio: Podcast

Created in Spring 2019 for ENGL 7495

Description

An audio file created for a class on folklore, and a supplemental document that includes images and a bibliography.

Critical Reflection

I've heard a lot of talk about podcasts over the years, but I did not listen to any, myself. I never imagined that I'd have to produce my own podcast episode!

I kind of dreaded it. I'm not fond of the sound of my own voice, and I really did not want to listen to myself on an audio recording over and over again. I survived, and I learned how to use the audio-recording software Audacity as a bonus.

During the course of this project, I gained an appreciation for podcasts as a communication method. I proved to myself that an ordinary person who doesn't have access to a recording studio can make such presentations and distribute them widely.

Thinking critically about folklore also informed my later considerations of TPC topics. Folklore reveals the power of belief, and technical communicators are wise to consider the beliefs and cultural nuances of their target audience to ensure successful communication.1
