CAP Portfolio: Textbook Recommendation
Created in Fall 2017 for ENGL 6715
Description
A document created in Microsoft Word that compares two textbooks and recommends one of them over the other. This project also required the use of more "advanced" features in Word.Critical Reflection
This is the final version of the file that I compiled after Dr. Albers returned an earlier draft with comments to me. The main issues he noted were a few formatting glitches and not having the subheadings in the Analysis section match the items in the Criteria section. The purpose of this assignment was to design and perform a recommendation process that is then described by a formal recommendation document. We needed to be mindful of the formatting guidelines we learned in class both while evaluating the books and composing this report.
I have analyzed things (mostly software) at work, and I expect to do so in the future. I can refer to this document as an example of how to write a formal recommendation if the need arises. Documents like this are an example of the way technical communicators can demonstrate their value in the business world.1,2 I learned in ENGL 6715 that Microsoft Word can do even more than I realized. We learned lots of advanced formatting tricks in Word, which I thought was very cool! Looking at this document again four years later, I think the main "advanced formatting" that this document illustrates is the alternating headers. I remember it being a bit tricky to have headers on all of the pages except the title page, and I can examine this document for a reminder of how to do that, as well.
Overall Satisfaction on a Scale of 1 to 7: 6
